About the Role

As a Forensic Scientist, you will play a key role in analyzing biological evidence through every stage of the DNA workflow — from sample collection and extraction to quantification, PCR amplification, and capillary electrophoresis. In addition to casework and database/human identification processing, you will contribute to the day-to-day operations of the laboratory, including routine maintenance and administrative support. Court testimony and external proficiency testing are also required components of the role.

What You’ll Do

  • Complete a comprehensive internal training program, including written, verbal, and practical competency assessments.
  • Perform manual and automated/robotic laboratory procedures on casework evidence and reference samples, encompassing sampling, DNA extraction, rtPCR quantification, PCR, and capillary electrophoresis.
  • Provide court testimony as required.
  • Consistently meet or exceed quality benchmarks and productivity standards.
  • Adhere to all standard operating procedures and accurately document all testing activities.
  • Maintain professional proficiency through semi-annual external testing.
  • Support quality control initiatives and assist with stocking and managing laboratory reagents and consumables.
  • Carry out assigned equipment maintenance, cleaning, and general lab upkeep.
  • Handle administrative tasks, including the scanning and organization of case file documentation.
  • Provide additional laboratory support as needed.

What We’re Looking For

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Forensic Science, or a related natural science field; a Master’s degree is preferred.
  • 5 years as a Forensic DNA Analyst in an accredited laboratory is required.
  • Strong, hands-on laboratory skills with a commitment to 100% accuracy.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to maintain focus in a high-precision environment.
  • Proven project management capabilities with a track record of meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Comfort working in and around sterile laboratory environments, specialized equipment, and chemical reagents.
  • Ability to handle biological materials, including blood and bodily fluids, with awareness of bloodborne pathogen protocols.
  • Willingness to work with sensitive evidence that may be related to violent or criminal activity.
  • Availability for occasional travel for court appearances or continuing education.
